Beyond the ordinary
Treboeth United FC’s story is one of community, resilience, and passion for the game, stretching back to the late 1940s and early 1950s, when the first Treboeth team took to the pitch.
The modern-day club began life in the late 1960s as St Albans FC, formed by youth from St Albans Church who gathered for Sunday kickabouts at Parc Llewelyn. With growing numbers, the club joined the Swansea Junior League in the early 1970s. Founders like Mike Lewis, Alan Jones, and Jeff Collins, under the guidance of Reverend Doug Davies, laid the foundations for what would become Treboeth United FC.
By the mid-1970s, the club adopted the name Treboeth United FC, and by the 1980s, it had teams from Seniors to Under 9s. The club quickly found success, winning the West Wales Youth Cup in 1979 and reaching the Welsh Youth Cup final against Cardiff City.
The 1980s and 1990s saw rapid growth, with the club becoming one of the largest in Swansea. Under the leadership of figures like Denzil Smith, Ray Sullivan, and Dave Savage, Treboeth’s junior and senior teams flourished, culminating in a West Wales Intermediate Cup win in 1995.
The 2000s brought continued success, memorable Butlins tours, and the rise of new coaching talent. The club’s home shifted over the years, from the Eagle Inn to the Gatehouse, while its heart remained firmly in the community. The 2000's also saw a rebuild of the Junior Section with teams Run By John Gibbs and Lee Williams, Lee's daughter Aliesha who played for us would later represent Wales. Sam Khan & Paul Broom would set up a thriving u13s with Sam's lad scoring an absurd number of goals for the club. Paul Newcombe and Joe Lucas would be involved in setting up a team also and hand over reigns to Rob Tunney & Johnathan Holder who would go on to win the Swansea Corinthian league before Rob integrated them into our current senior teams.
In recent years, the club has seen a powerful resurgence. A successful 50th year anniversary took place at the Cwmfelin Club where past and present members all enjoyed a catch up, this also saw the clubs badge transform to acknowledge the 50 years in existence. The senior section launched an 'Veterans team' for over 40's and takes part in charity games and organised friendlies against old friends and foes. The First Team were runners up of the Senior cup in 2023 and In 2024, they went undefeated to reclaim their place in The Premier Division , led by long-standing captain Callum Davies & managed by Gavin Tucker & Anthony Chafey. In recent years the 2nds and 3rd teams have also had success in achieving league promotions run by Gareth Batcup and Rob Tunney. The club also reignited its youth programme, fielding two Under 15s teams (the Clarets and the Blues) for the first time in nearly a decade, and launching a new Under 8s team in August after great work by Charlie Kenealy.
From humble beginnings to a thriving multi-team organisation, Treboeth United FC continues to grow driven by volunteers, fuelled by community spirit, and always striving to be beyond the ordinary.
